Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to have acupuncture?

A treatment given by a properly trained and experienced practitioner is safe. Any side effects are extremely rare.

Does acupuncture hurt?

While the treatment is pain free, you may experience slight sensations like tingling, warmth, heaviness or lightness. This is normal and no cause for concern. It is common for people to fall asleep during their treatment as they feel very relaxed and free from stress.

What can acupuncture do for me?

An Acupuncture treatment has many benefits. It can resolve specific health problems, as well as regulate your blood pressure, lower your cholesterol, regulate your hormone levels and enhance your immune function.

Once I have had a set of treatments, will I still need to keep having acupuncture?

Depending on your personal circumstances, it may be beneficial to continue to have a treatment on a monthly basis. Sometimes people do choose to continue to have treatments to ensure the health benefits they obtained from acupuncture are maintained.

Are there any side effects with acupuncture?

There are rare side effects. Fainting can happen for some people, if they have a history of fainting, low blood pressure or dizzy spells. It is a good idea to inform your practitioner. It is also possible that a bruise can appear at the site where you have been needled, though this is minor and will disappear completely after a day or so.

How clean are the needles and equipment?

All equipment is clean. The needles we use are single use, pre-sterilised and disposed after every use. By having such stringent hygiene standards ensures your safety.

What type of needles are used?

Acupuncture needles are very fine. They are a fraction of the size of the hyperdermic needle which you may have seen. This is why acupuncture is not a painful procedure.

How long does a treatment go for?

Treatment times can vary but generally will last up to one hour.

Can I claim rebates from my health fund for acupuncture treatment?

No. These treatments are not covered by health insurance.
